Challenge

Client works from a large campus spread across many acres in Coastal North County San Diego.   They also have some staff that works from home periodically.   For many years, client used managed phone services provided by Cox Communications.     

 

The client was frustrated with Cox’s phone service, because it did not integrate with their web meeting system, which is Microsoft Teams.   Also, every time they needed to make any change to their Cox phone setup, a phone call to Cox was required to make the request and at best, the change would take several days to complete.    

 

Even routine phone service changes, such as adding or removing a phone extension were slow, and if there was a short term need for a phone service change, such as adding or removing a phone extension,  it was hardly worth pursuing as the requirement for the service change might end before the change was finally made by Cox Communications.    

Solution

Web meetings are a primary way that many companies work now, especially after the Covid era led many companies to use geographiocally a dispersed workforce.   Zoom and Microsoft Teams are the dominant web meeting platforms and most any company can realize a cost savings by consolidating their phone services over to one of these services as well. 

 

Bayside Networks listened to the client’s concerns with their present phone service, and recommended Microsoft Teams based phones for their needs.      

Outcome

With Teams based phones, the client has reduced their telephone service costs while realizing the following benefits: 

  • Ability to rapidly add or remove extensions, often on their own – without outside technical help 

  • Easier and faster web meeting setups – the ability to join Teams web meetings by phone is automatically available for every meeting when Teams phones service is active 

  • Reduced support costs, partly due the fact that MS-Teams based phones use the same username / password combos as the rest of MS-365
