Challenge
Rehabilitate poorly built network, migrate workloads to the cloud

Background
In late 2023, Bayside Networks won a competitive bidding process to provide IT support and cloud migration services to one of San Diego County’s Health District management offices.     What is a Healthcare District?   More info hereOur client found themselves in a tough spot with their technology status.   Their prior IT vendor had not performed well over a long period of time, leaving them with upset system users that were not getting proper support along with a wide range of technology risk issues.   We started our work with this client with a comprehensive review of their technology status, then worked together to set priorities on which areas to address first.   Our system review reports are designed based on the NIST.gov CSF framework which is widely used across many industries to review and report on IT quality and cybersecurity metrics. 

Solution
A good technology review serves a range of purposes, including: 

  • Help the client understand their overall technology status and support their ability to ask for improvements they wish to prioritize – not be “told” what is most important by an outside party 

  • Provides detailed recommendation on cyber security and data safety / backup needs  

  • Cost and budgeting details: Provides specific details on what improvements are needed – and cost ranges to expect 

  • Objective information that can be used to help answer compliance documentation need you may already face, such as: cyber insurance applications, or customer / or stake holder cyber questionnaires. 

  • Provide a road-map for the year ahead to within a cost framework that the client approves and understands in advance. 

In their first year with us, some of the services we have provided for the Health District include: 

  • System review and status report – a critical first step 

  • Help desk services: regularly scheduled on site support visits and remote support for client users 

  • Project: New backup system, covering Office365 and server based data 

  • Project: New firewall, and entirely new switching and wifi system to replace prior poorly installed system 

  • Project: Sharepoint data migration, a step toward decommissioning their internal servers 

  • Project: Implemented Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender device management and security systems 

  • Project: Cleaned up and consolidated a variety of over priced hosting services the client had been paying for, for server and website hosting – realizing a 20k/yr savings going forward 

Outcome
 

  • Improved client user satisfaction with their IT support level, based on questionnaire data gathered internally by the client 

  • Improved their Microsoft Security score from the low 20’s to above 50 – well above the average for this type of client 

  • Established a safe environment for the client’s data that is highly resistant to ransomware and other threats. 

By starting with a good overall assessment of this client’s technology status, we created a customized path forward that vastly improved their user support satisfaction level and the safety of their systems and data.
