Construction Case Study
Client Profile
Client Type: San Diego Construction Firm (Governmental Water Project Focused)
Employees: Approximately 75
Client Relationship: Long-term client of Bayside Networks
Challenge
Objective: Replace the aging server systems with new hardware and updated operating systems.
Background
Our client had relied on their current in-house server systems for about 10 years. While still operational, maintaining these servers was becoming increasingly difficult due to their age. The firm uses specialized software designed for their industry, which runs more effectively and cost-efficiently on in-house servers.
Bayside Networks had previously guided this client through two similar upgrades, making us their trusted partner for major IT projects. Despite competition from other firms eager to quote, this client repeatedly chose us based on our proven record of completing projects on time and under budget.
Solution
While many Bayside Networks clients have transitioned to fully cloud-based solutions, this client required a primarily on-premise setup due to their use of Sage Accounting Software, which operates best on server-based systems.
Our Approach:
-
Detailed Scope of Work: We prepared a comprehensive plan that outlined every major step of the upgrade project.
-
Purchasing Guidance: We facilitated hardware and software purchases by gathering quotes from vendors like Dell, Amazon, and CDW. After reviewing quotes with the client, we enabled them to purchase directly from their preferred suppliers, with no markup or commission from us.
-
Migration Execution: After receiving the necessary equipment, we began staging the hardware and executing the migration. Importantly, there was no disruption to the client’s daily workflow during the process.
-
Final Switchover: We completed the migration by switching over to the new server equipment during a scheduled downtime after business hours. The next day, our technical team was onsite to address any issues.
The project involved upgrading 10 servers, improving the backup system, and updating cloud services like Office 365. All systems were successfully migrated to new hardware and operating systems, including essential data and settings.
Outcome
The new server systems went live smoothly. Users immediately noticed faster performance and more reliable operations. Additionally, the updated system requires less maintenance and provides better protection against modern security threats.
While some IT projects don't introduce flashy new features, this upgrade was critical for maintaining security and supporting the client’s growing data needs. Replacing servers before they fail is essential, and we’re proud to have partnered with this client to ensure their system remains robust and secure.
A Successful Partnership
This project is just one example of our long-term relationship with this client. We continue to work on a wide range of projects and provide ongoing support.
