Consumer Electronics Show 2007 - Hot-swap external hard drive case

Published by Ted January 13th, 2007

CES 2007 - hotswappable external hard drive enclosure. Wingsonic, a Chinese manufacturer, displayed their latest hard drive enclosures.

This external hard drive case allows you to quickly and easily exchange the hard drive. They have created a stable mounting system that guides the hard drive into the connector ports for trouble free use. This also supports hot-swap capability for more flexibility.

This particular case had a key lock on the front for security. They also have a line of internal hard drive mounts for the basic computer tower.

New Information

I’ve had some time to use the internal version of their hard drive enclosures. This is a very high quality unit. They’ve given much consideration to ease of use, finish, and cooling. They are working on American distributors and hopefully you’ll see these on the market soon. If you are interested in purchasing a unit or becoming a distributor visit their profile at Alibaba.

I really love its design. And I also noticed that Wingsonic uses an unique worldwide patent NSS Conn. (Non-Scratch SATA Conn.). I visited their booth in CES, and they showed me their SGS Swap test report which this NSS Conn. can support 50K cycles hot swap. It’s really unbelievable that they make it as my company Foxconn can not make it…
I bought one sample product MRA200 from them, and this is very unusual comparing with current traditional mobile rack. I just need to take 3~5 seconds to change one new HDD, no wonder they name it as “HDD-ROM” instead of “Mobile rack”. I love this design and I think it would be a new revolution for all RAID users.
